Beaconsfield is five minutes away, and its club sporting culture gives the headaches we see from there a particular character. Alongside the usual postural presentations, a meaningful share are post-impact: a knock in a football or netball game, a heavy landing, or a collision at training, followed by headaches over the days and weeks afterwards. These need careful handling. Some are straightforward neck-driven headaches that respond well to treatment, and some are concussion-related and require medical management first — and telling those apart properly is the important part of the first appointment.
For a full explanation of what causes headaches, how the different presentations are told apart, and what recovery usually looks like, read our complete guide to headaches.
For any headache following a head or neck impact, the first job is screening for concussion and for the red flags that need medical review rather than manual therapy — we will send you to a GP or emergency department without hesitation if the picture warrants it. Where the presentation is cervical, assessment covers C1–C3 mobility, suboccipital tension, jaw function and postural load, and treatment combines targeted upper cervical mobilisation, suboccipital soft tissue release and postural retraining. Return to sport is graded rather than cleared in one go. Most cervicogenic and tension headaches improve meaningfully within 4–6 sessions, and being five minutes away means we can reassess weekly through a return to play.
