Berwick Football Club injuries: what the EFNL season brings
Berwick Football Club has competed in the Eastern Football Netball League since 2020, playing out of Edwin Flack Reserve. We are a few minutes down the road at Langmore Lane, which means we see a lot of local footballers and netballers across the season — and being close by changes what we can offer.
The football injuries
Hamstrings, ankles, knees and shoulders, roughly in that order. Hamstring strains dominate and recur at high rates when the return to play is rushed. Ankle sprains are the most common single injury but the least well rehabilitated — most are treated until the swelling settles and then abandoned, which is why the same ankle keeps going.
The netball injuries
Different profile on the same ground. Ankles again, but with a much higher proportion of knee injuries from the stop-jump-land pattern, and jarred fingers from hard passes. Female athletes carry a higher ACL risk, which makes landing mechanics work genuinely worth the training time.
Why proximity matters mid-season
The value of being five minutes away is not convenience, it is reassessment. A hamstring or ankle coming back through a graded return needs checking weekly, not cleared once and hoped for. We can see you Tuesday, adjust based on how Thursday training went, and give you a straight answer about Saturday. Our muscular strains page explains how we structure that.
The desk week problem
Most club footballers work full-time, largely seated. A body conditioned for a desk week is asked to perform at match intensity every Saturday. The lumbar spine and hamstrings absorb what the hips and glutes lack the capacity to handle — see low back pain.

Same-week appointments most weeks, and we understand a match schedule. If something happened on the weekend and you want it looked at before Thursday training, that is exactly the timeframe we work in.
What a first appointment looks like
We start with what actually happened and what the demands of your sport are, then assess the injured area alongside the joints and muscles above and below it — because the painful structure is often not the limiting one. You get a diagnosis, a realistic timeframe, and a plan that accounts for your training and match schedule rather than assuming you can stop. If we think you need imaging or another practitioner, we will say so at that first visit rather than after six sessions.
