Neck
pain.

Stiff, achy, or sharp — neck pain is highly treatable with the right approach.

Last reviewed: May 2025

Neck pain is one of the most common complaints we see, driven by everything from desk posture and screen time to sport and whiplash. The good news: it responds well to hands-on treatment.

Common causes
Postural strain
Forward head posture from screens overloads the cervical joints and deep neck flexors. Classic desk-worker presentation.
Facet joint irritation
Small cervical joints that lock or inflame — often causing a stiff neck with restricted rotation.
Whiplash
Rapid acceleration-deceleration injury affecting joints, muscles, and ligaments. Can produce headaches, arm symptoms, and dizziness.
Cervicogenic headaches
Headaches driven by the upper cervical spine (C1–C3). Often one-sided and triggered by neck movement.
How we treat it

Cervical and thoracic joint mobilisation, deep neck flexor retraining, and postural correction. We also address the thoracic spine — a common but overlooked contributor to neck dysfunction.

Common questions

FAQ: neck pain

Is cracking my neck safe?
Targeted cervical manipulation by a registered practitioner is safe. We always discuss and consent before any technique.
Can neck pain cause headaches?
Yes — cervicogenic headache is one of the most common headache types. If your headache starts in the neck, osteopathy often helps significantly.
How long before I see results?
Many people feel improvement after the first session. 3–5 sessions is typical for meaningful change.
