Knee &
ankle pain.
From runner's knee to ankle sprains — lower limb injuries need the full chain assessed.
Last reviewed: May 2025
Knee and ankle pain rarely exist in isolation — how you load through the foot, how the hip controls the leg, and how you move all contribute. We assess the full lower limb to find the real driver.
Common causes
Patellofemoral pain (runner's knee)
Pain around the kneecap during running, stairs, or squatting. Usually a hip control and quad loading issue.
Patellar and Achilles tendinopathy
Overload of the patellar or Achilles tendon from sudden load increases. Progressive loading is the most effective treatment.
Ankle sprains and instability
Lateral ligament sprains are common in sport and daily life. Untreated instability leads to recurrent sprains and long-term joint problems.
IT band syndrome
Lateral knee pain in runners and cyclists. A hip strength and biomechanics issue — not just "tight" ITB.
How we treat it
Lower limb biomechanical assessment, joint mobilisation, targeted strengthening for the hip and lower limb, and graduated return to sport. We also assess footwear and training load.

Common questions
FAQ: knee & ankle pain
Should I use a brace for my ankle?
Short-term: sometimes. Long-term: no. Proprioceptive retraining and strengthening are the key to preventing re-injury.
Can I run through knee pain?
Depends on the cause. Many presentations allow continued running with load modification. We'll help you find the threshold.
Is my meniscus tear surgical?
Most meniscal tears respond well to conservative rehab. Exercise therapy outperforms surgery for many tear types.
