Foot pain is one of the most undertreated presentations in musculoskeletal care. Most people either ignore it or get told to buy orthotics. A proper assessment of foot mechanics, calf loading, and footwear gives a much clearer path to recovery.
Common causes
Plantar fasciitis
Inflammation or degeneration at the heel attachment of the plantar fascia. The classic first-step morning heel pain.
Achilles tendinopathy
Overload of the Achilles tendon from running, jumping, or calf tightness. Responds well to progressive loading.
Metatarsalgia
Pain across the ball of the foot from overloading, poor footwear, or altered gait.
Fat pad atrophy
Thinning of the heel pad — particularly common in older adults and those who have had repeated cortisone injections.

Do I need orthotics?
Sometimes — but often short-term while you build strength. Orthotics address a symptom; strengthening addresses the cause.
Will plantar fasciitis go away on its own?
Eventually — but often takes 12–18 months untreated. With the right treatment, most cases resolve in 6–8 weeks.
Can I keep running?
Usually yes, with load modification. Complete rest rarely helps and often makes re-entry harder.
